. Mr T. M. Wilford, leader of the Liberal-Labour party, and Mr T. H. Langford, Liberal-Labour candidate, ■will address the electors in the Drill Hall, Geraldine, to-morrow (Wednesday). evening,, the meeting commencing at S o’clock. The annual examination for pro- ' ficiency certificates will he held today at - the Temuka District High School' by Inspectors Raymond and Evans. . .

The crops in the Hilton and Kakahu districts are really ■well after the late rains (writes a correspondent), and with anything like, a run of fortune should give out a good yield. A considerable area , lias this year been put in linseed, and good results are expected from it provided the season is favourable. The areas sown in wheat are, on the whole, coming away well, hut a shower or two at intervals is much needed for the crops lying to •the sun on the hillsides. Shearing is in full swing on many farms, and the rise’in wool just reported is putting the farmers on good terms with themselves. The Temuka Branch Committee of the South Canterbury Patriotic War Relief Society met on Friday evening. Present—Messrs G. W. Armitage (chairman), M. 11. McLeod, E. G. Scrimshaw, Dr. F. A. Scannell, Rev. A. H. Norris (hon. treasurer), and Mr A. W. Grade (secretary). For. the ensuing year Mr Armltage was re-elected chairman, and Mr Norris hon. treasurer. The chairman complimented the members on the - extent and thoroughness of the work which they had' done at the regular monthly meetings during the past year. The excellent work of the secretary was warmly eulogised. The hon. treasurer’s financial statement showed that during the year enejed September 30th, the actual expenditure by the Branch Committee had been £llß3 14s Id, the principal items being grants to soldiers and dependants £920 12s 2d, loans to soldiers £lO5. Messrs McLeod .and Norris were appointed the Tornuka representatives on the Management Committee of the Society, which meets at Tiraarn. In the examinations held in August and September for the purpose of teachers’ certificates, the following local teachers were successful:—Obtained partial pass for Class D—Cora Ilancox; Obtained pass or partial pass in three groups for Class D—Velma Mary Date; Obtained pass! or partial pass in two groups for \ Class D —Una Letitia Caldcr, Alan I Albert Fowke, • Marion Campbell j Ivcrach, James Fergus Mills. i Readers are reminded of the rale of gifts in aid of ilia Temuka Pluuket Nurse Fund, which takes place at Mrs Radford’s premises to-day. ; Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., will address the electors to-night in the Kakahu School at 7 o’clock and in the Hilton Hall at 8.30. To-morrow Mr Burnett will address the electors at Tengawai at 7.20 p.m.. and at CTicklewood at 5.30 p.m.
