The ' Salvation Army -1 not. only ' believed'' that'''there'' was hope for the worst,' it went after the most disreputable in the hotel bar, in the slum, in the prison, and -on the street -c6rnei\ Its success has been attained in the most difficult fields of human effort, at the minimum of cost and its work must go on. A great deal of the maintenance of the Army is due to their great yearly «ff the Self-Denial Appeal, which enables them to. carry on its work'of inercv and benevolence. This vear the Self-Denial Week is from October 14tli" to 20th, and already the collect ore are at work in . the conntrv districts. All friends are asked 'to contribute liberally. The "earnestness" iof " the: organisation certainly commends tlie appeal to every section of the public, and we feel gure that the people of this district will'subscribe to this worthy object at least as liberally as they have done in the past.
