A DREADFUL MISTAKE.
COMMUNICANTS POISONED. NEW YORK, January it. A message from the Grand Rapids, Michigan, says that len elders of the Deformed Church were seriousl> poisoned—two may die—as a result of drinking oak stain varnish for sacramental wine at the Sunday morning service. The men staggered from the pulpit where they took the communion draught, reeled, and dropped to the floor. The congregation was thrown into uproar. A new older of. the chutch had gone to the storeroom just before the service and mistook a jug of varnish for wine. The church was recently re-decorated.
