The monthly-meeting of the. above Council Was ‘hold oh Tuesday evening. . Present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr.E- Handcastle), and Councillors ,J. -Kennedy, W. A. Sherratt, D. Paterson,. J. M. Sutherland, HALF HOLIDAY. It was decided that the statutory half-holiday be Thursday, as previously. MAYOR’S STATEMENT. ' The Mayor stated that Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., had informed him that he had made arrangements with the State : Advances Department to advance £SOOO for .the Town Hall and Library blinding. The Council had applied for the money, but no reply had-vet been received. CORRESPONDENCE. -Mi’s A. Sinclair-Thonjson, hon. sec. Geraldine branch of the Plunket Society, wrote asking for a renewal of the grant of £ls made to the Society last year, pointing out that the nurse spent two days a week at Geraldine, and that the expenses of maintaining the car were heavy.— Before granting the usual amount, it was decided to inquire if under the new regulations the Council can legally do so. The Health Officer (Dr. Telford) wrote requiring the Council to engage the services of a professional rat-catcher for the borough.—The letter was received. Mr George Sherratt, on behalf of his mother and the family, wrote that the expressions of sympathy and floral tributes on the occasion of his father’s death, had been gratefully appreciated. The secretary South Island Motor Union wrote asking that “Grass Island” at intersections of roads be removed.—Referred to Works Committee. ; LICENSES. The following licenses were granted: To carry passengers, Symington and Burridge, Chas. McKenzie. billiard rooms, Symington and Burridge, A. Barnett, W. Fyfe; hall license, 1.0.0. F.; driver, C. McKenzie. GENERAL. . The Town Clerk reported ou the damaged tyre on the Fire Brigade motor engine. The tyre was perished and had suffered a blow out. In his opinion a new tyre should be procured. There had been a theft of petrol from the engine tank. A balance-sheet was supplied and was laid on the table; The Clerk reported that a leak in the pipe from the reservoir had caused a considerable amount of loss of water before it could be stopped.— It was decided to restrict the use of water in garden hoses, FINANCE REPORT. Cr. Sherratt presented the finan- , cial report as follows:—Receipts £lB3 17s 4d; credit Bank N.S.W. £659 10s 7d; cash in hand, £27 5s sd. Accounts for payment, £578 3s 3d, leaving a credit balance of £IOB 12s 9d.—lt was resolved to pay £25 on Masonic Hall purchase.—The report was adopted. DOMAIN BOARD. The Council sat as a Domain Board. The chairman stated that Mr E. Speechley had offered to pay half cost of a fence from the new gates running towards the Post Office. No design for the fence had been decided upon as yet. Mr M, Mulhern applied for grazing for a cow on the reserve opposite the ceme to r y.—G rant ed.
