‘ ENGLISH PUBLIC SCHOOLS v. PAST CHRIST’S COLLEGE. ' The annual cricket match between the above teams was played at Geraldine on Saturday, additional interest this year being given to the fixutre through the presence in the Public Schools eleven of His ExcelT- lency the Governor-General Lord } Jellicoe. Lady Jellicoe and the Hon. Lucy Jellicoe'were also amongst the spectators. The Christ College XI. proved too strong for their older opponents and won by an innings and 55 rims. Winning the toss the Public School men went first to the wickets, Lord Jellicoe and Dr. P. \V. Hislop being the first pair of batsmen to oppose Harper and Peter, to whom was entrusted the attack. A good start was made. Lord Jellicoe from the start playing lively cricket. He made 24, which included five boundary hits. Three wickets down showed 50 on the board, but the run [•■■ ■ getting slackened off after the dismissal of Hunter-Weston. Sin-clair-Thomson was the only other batsman to get. into clouble figures, and the side was dismissed for 95 ■vtins. Christ College replied with 226. to which Vincent contributed a . well-played 62/ though he owed a • good deal to faulty catching. G. Peter made 34, whew he retired, and C. G. C. Harper 39. A Ziugari junior eleven visited Temuka on Saturday, and in u oneinnings match defeated the homo team bv 82 to 78. The winners’ score was made up chiefly by Rawstorn 47. Willis and McKnight 9 each Roundhill S. The Temuka men batted more evenly. Austin’s IS. Twomey’s 16, and extras being the top scores. McKnight took six wickets, Smith one, and Thompson two for JSingari, and Lee (6 wickets), Radford (4) were Temuka’s bowlers.
