During the hearing of one of the cases in the Magistrate's Court, Temuka, Tuesday, Mr Aspinall applied to the Magistrate, Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., to direct, under the Act passed last year, that the name of the accused should not be -ipublished. His Worship said he bad never yet made such an order, because he considered that publicity was the greatest deterrent to crimes of this kind. He had said in Timaru that he would not make such an order unless their circumstances were very exceptional, and there were no exceptional circumstances in the case before lixm, therefore he could not make an order. He would leave it to the discretion of the newspaper reporters, who could act as they thought proper. The only cases in which he would be inclined to interfere would be in those of young people, who might perhaps know no better.
