‘■Rooks of To-day and Rooks of To-morrow” contains the following : It is from a prize essay on crinolines VOrisis in politics, crisis in diplomacy. crisis m sociology, physiology, philosophy, women’s suffrage, labour—Heaven, anything else ! but not,' for the love of all that spells comfort, beauty, economy, not the crinoline ! ■'Tt is the ugliest thing the mind of man has ever conceived wherewith to itorture female nether limbs. It is so ugly that even a queen, whom fashion forced to wear it, was left high and dry cn the matrimonial shelf. I reiterate, it is only a bogey. It will not come, “Here are some 1 ' of the catastrophes of which the crinoline will be the sole cause : All London would be in a chaos for-' at least a year, as the increase in the width of the carriages, motor-cars, and all vehicles would necessitate the widening of all streets : all prices of tlv-atro stalls, boxes, etc,, would treble themselves in proportion to apace occupied ; men, already at a high premium, would vanish altogether, tlw.re being no room left, lor them : and, indeed, who would keep them ?”
