SABBATH SCHOOL CONCERT

HOMIATUA THEATRE. Ihe Temuka Presbyterian Sabbatjfi .school's annual concert was held in the Dominion Ih eat re, J emua-a, on I'tiday evening. Ihe items were of good standard, and showed a variety of pleasing talent. -Misses Freda Roberts and Mar■jory M uir opened the with a pianoforte duet, revealing nice combination ami ability. Evelyn Taylor loilowvjd with a capital recitation”descriptive of events “At School.” A number of small girls sweetly sang the hymn, “Jesus bid us Shine,” which was followed by Ronnie McGaskill with a capable mandolin so lo, “Rovalo 'Plume.” Evans told an agreeable little story, by way of recitation, about “'Die cat that came to school.” Ran MicCallum, Peter McDougall, Jim Evans, and Arthur Achcson. showed fine voice in the combination song, And we II all go a* singing.” Little Florric .Jackson revealed much rising liiusieal ability in the piano solo, “Little Cadet March.” ’I ho favourite Alexander hymn, “Jesus wants mo for a Sunbeam.,” found good interpretation at the hands of a number of girls, Nessic Acheson, Mary ‘ I’onny, Martha Hoys, and Marion McGaskiil 1 ailing verses.-to advantage. Rita Smart made a pleasing hit with her recitation, “Cuddle Loon,” while. Jack Evans showed capacity in his pianoforte rendering of the “Norwegian Cradle Bong.” The item of the evening was a dialogue “The Shoemaker and the Fives,” and the bovs and girls who took part in it rellcctod credit upon themselves and their teachers. Inez McOallwu played most eli'ectively the piano solo “Voices from the Hillside,” whilst Marion McCaskiß rendered a very nice solo, “A Perfect Ray.” .1- Lina Redder smartly recited 'Two Little Sunbeams,” and Mvra and Ronnie McCaskill played nicely together in the piano duet “Llndon Leaves.” “Gliding through the Meadows’’ was the title of a capital part song by girls. “The Pride of Battery ti” was a feat of memory for which .Miss Dorothy McLeod was responsible. Millie McCallum was prominent in a, very nice piano solo, "la the Sweet By and By.” The. first part of the programme concluded/ with the dialogue, “I he Snow W itehV’ in which senior scholars performed verv creditably. Supper followed, and although no encore was permitted, the repast was thoroughly enioyed. -'Part (wo of the programme was opened by Miss luomey, who rendered a pianoforte, solo in her usual incomparable and musieianly style. Messrs V, Colra and W. .Lewis were responsible for an excellent duet “Ve Banks and Braes” ; and later, in conjunct ion with Messrs C. J. Billon and -L H. A. Redder, in the ipi, urlelle, "Hark iis the Indian Drum.” 'I heir eliort was only a little less successful.” -Mr S.
