CHRATIAN ENDEAVOUR UNION.

ANNUAL MEETING.

( The sixth annual convention of the South Canterbury Endeavour Union was held in Timaru on Monday, when two meetings were held, one "in the afternoon and the other at night. At the afternoon meeting, which was held in the Congregational Church ait 2 o clock, the Rov. J. Olphcrt presihed, and there were present representatives from eight Endeavour Societies^—Geraldine, Waimato (2), Temuka, Waimat'aitai. Trinity, Congregational and Primitive Methodists.

The honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr Morgan Gould, presented the report and balance.=heot. The lather showed a credit of £1 17/G. The report stated, inter alia, that the proposal to provide a Irenner for th society showing the biggest in or ease during the year, had been dropped as no workable scheme for awarding it could Ire devised. The town societies of the union had held meetings monthly, at the Old Men’s Home, the inmates of which institution had greatly appreciated the efforts put forth on their behalf. Two successful rallies had been held, one at Temuka and the other at Waimato. The convention held on November 9th had been the most’ sucocssfol ever held under the auspices of the Union. The roll of atire memlrers now stood as follows : Geraldine 20, Temuka 21, Knbx Presbyterian (Wafmate) 41, Primitive Methodist (Waimato) 23, Wnimataitai 13, Primitive Methodist (Timaru) Ifi, Trinity Presbyterian 23, Congregational 20—a grand total of 143. The rfc* port concluded with a word of encouragement to till Christian .endeavourers to continue the good work in which they were engaged. Both report and balance-sheet wore adopted. Official for the ensuing year were elected as follows :—President, Rev. T. Stinson ; Vice-Presidents, Rev, G. H. Mann (Gcratdine), and Mr J. Lock (Waimate) ; Hon. Secretary and Treasurer, Mr Morgan Gould (re-elected). The mooting passed a recommendation to the executive to the effect that every member of each society should endeavour to get at least one new member during the year ; and it was decided that a delegate snould Ire appointed to visit all the societies during the year to report on the progress each was making. At the close of the business, a paper was load by the Rov. Mr Daniels, of Temuka, on "Christian Benilloence,” the paper being of a helpful character. The Rev. T. Stinson, in opening the evening meeting, explained that it had for its special object the strengthening mid deejrenjng, <jf their spiritual life, and addresses to this end would be given by the Rev. A. S. Morrison and the Rev. G. King. Mr Morrison spoke of Gideon’s equipment for service, delivering a very effective address.

The Rev. G. King, of Pleasant Point, addressed the meeting on some conditions of success in Christian work.

On the motion of the Rev. A. E. Hunt hearty votes of thanks wore passed to the speakers for the addresses they had given. and after supper had boon served, the gathering dispersed.
