On Thursday next the Temuka Club will put two teams in the field. The .Juniors play the Timaru II in the Victoria Dark at 3 p.m. sharp, This should prove a very interesting game to witness, as Timaru won the Junior Competition Inst year, and Tomuka only bent them by eight points at the commencement of this season. The Presidents journey to Timaru and [day Zingari. A. drag will leave for Timani at 1.15 sharp. The following will represent the Juniors :—M. Guild, Norton, McKellur, McLeod, W. Spillane, Gus. NEW ZEALAND BEAT QUEENSLAND. BRISBANE, July 27. The ' return match between Queensland and New Zealand was decided on the Cricket Ground this afternoon in very pleasant weather. The attendance was variously estimated at between 14,000 and 15,000. THE TEAMS. The following were the teams Queensland (Maroon)—Full-back, P* Carmichael; thresquarters, Pearce, Carrie, J. Carmichael and Parkinson j halves, Heaslop and Ahearne; forwards, Fiholly, Richards, Flanagan, Sampson, Caniffe, Oxenham, Oxlado, and Brighton. New Zealand (Black)—Full-back, Gj Spencer; threoquarters, Fryer, Gillett and Booth ; five-eighths, Wallace and Eckhold ; half, Roberts ; forwards, Ho- 1 igan (wing), Hughes, McDonald, Nichiolsoh, Cunningham, Johnston, Seeling, and J. Spencer. During the first spell the New Zealanders had it all their own way, pud when half-time was called the score was. Now Zealand 0, Queensland nil. In the second spell th* score of the New Zealanders steadily mounted until it stood at 17, with Queensland still nil. At this period of the game McDonald injured his back, and had ' to retire from the field. This misfortune was almost immediately added to by Hogan being placed hors do combat. Benefited by the brief spell winch the accidents necessitated, the Maroons returned to the attack with increased vigor, and forcing the New Zealanders back to their own 25 Carmichael marnod and kicked a goal, which was the first score on their side. There were not many minutes to play, but the score of the Queenslanders waa brought up to 11 before time was called, the score being Now Zealand 17, Queensland 11. A feature of the game was that Fryer was the only one to score on Now Zealander’s side. Had the placekicking been up to the usual standard, the New Zealand total would have been much larger.
