MEW YORK, July 21. A train with SOO excursionists on the Tore Parqpetto railway, near _ Salem, Michigan, dashed into a freight train coming in the opposite direction- ... , Six out of eleven cars were destroyed, and 33 persons were killed, and scores injured, many critically. One hundred and fifty children were among the excursionists, but only a few wore severely hurt, the victims chieily being men. LONDON, July 23. Reuter’s San Francisco correspondent states that the small steamer San Pedro, laden! with lumber, collided at midnight on Saturday oil' Eureka during a heavy fog with the steamer Columbia, 2700 tons, carrying numerous San Francisco 1 passc*gers. The San Pedro struck tho liner’s port bow, tearing an immense hole. The Columbia’s passengers hurried-mi deck where a wild panic ensued. The Columbia sank in live, minutes. A life raft was launched and saved a few, and eight were saved by clinging, to the San Pedro. Lloyd’s states that 100 persons were drowndd, and 200 saved by a passing steamer. A telegram from Tairua states that a messenget from Olvui has just ridden over and reported that the scow Surprise went ashore on the ' rocks about a mile from the north end ofOhm beach, and is a total wreck. (The captain, mate, and two seamen are supposed to be drowned. A fifth hand got ashore and found his way to Ohiui, where he is being looked after by Mr James McGregor.
