PLEASANT POINT SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

At the monthly meeting of the Pleasant Point School Committee., held on Monday last, there were present Messrs G-. Crozier (chairman), Leitch, G-. Saunders, M. Saunders,McKibbin and Kennedy. The headmaster's report showed that the scarlatina epidemic had had a had eSect on the attendance, the averages for the four weeks since opening being 135, 132, 121, and 119, but there had been a considerable increase that day Monday), and he thought it would not be advisable to close school at present. The committee decided to keep the school open but in the event of serious fresh developments "a special meeting will b'e called to deal further with the- matter. The committee hoped that in the absence of a medical man the parents would notify the teachers when fresh cases.occurred. The headmaster reported having obtained two dozen pairs of Indian, clubs,for drill purposes, and asked the committee to grant the usual holiday for the combined school sports in Timaru (granted). The visitor for the month (Mr Kennedy) reported having attended to some small icpairs to the doors, and called attention to part of the roof that needed repairing. Notice was received from the Board of Education that £7 12s 6d (incidentals allowance) had been paid in to their committee's account. Mr 6, Saunders, treasurer for the Coronation Committee, handed in 34s Bd, balance as a donation . to the School Committee for the .use of the schoolrooms, and notified that he and the chairman had had the Coronation oaks in the School grounds securely fenced. A hearty vote of.thank wasunanimously accord ed to Messrs G. Crozier and G. Saunders for the trouble,they had taken to wind up Coronation celebration affairs so satisfactorily. Mr Leitch was appointed,, visitor for the ensuing month.
