. AUCKLAND, Feb. 23. The criminal sittings of the Supreme , Court concluded to-day. The cases dealt, with, .were with three exceptions. for offences against women. In this connection, William Brighting,..,a survivor of the ; Elingamite wreck,, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment,, and Te Waka Kireka and Hiffiener Tipehb' each received ten years’ impri'sbh'nient and two floggings each of 25 strokes of .the cat. Te Pliki Tiperie was sentenced to five years’ hard labour, and Geo. Rudolph, a/ half-cast, eight years’ imprisonment . And two , floggings each of 25 lashes. Win, McLeod, found guilty of indecent assault on a young boy, was sentenced to ten years' ■ imprisonement Geo-. Armer pleaded guilty to breaking into' premises, and was sentenced to 12 months. Lloyd Evans, for forgery at Christchurch, was admitted to probation for 12 months. William Colbourne was found guilty of stealing a bicycle, and was sentenced to a months imprisonment. Angus Me Neil charged with wounding Charles Anderson - with intent, and was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment. Mary' Livingstone Hannah was sentenced to ’ six months’ imprisonment for theft; DUNEDIN, February 24, At the Supreme Court, after a. trial lasting nearly the whole day, Eliza Metcalf and Esther Saunders, charged : 1 with performing .aft illegal operation on a girl, were found not guilty and discharged, the jpry beingof opinion' that there was not suf(icent corroborative evidence to convict.
