BENEFIT CONCERT.

There was a very satisfactory attendance at the benefit concert tendered by the Geraldine Good Templars to the widow and family of the late Bro. Wotton, of Timaru on Thursday night in the Volunteer Hall Mr W. S. Maslin acted us Chairman, and spoke of the worthy object for which the concert was held. They all very much regie tied the circumstances, but were very pleased at the spirit of genuine sympathy that was manifested. The Good Templar Lodge at Geraldine, he said, had been in existence for a great many years, and had done much good in, the community, and, in conclusion, he urged upon all present the claims of the ldidge for their sympathy iand support. The programme opened with a pleasing selection by Mr Cliff's orchestra, which was loudly applauded. Following this Miss Morrison —an old Geraldine favourites, who has been absent in the North Island for some years—sang " Why Must We Say Good-bye" with delightful expression and was deservedly encored. Mr TV. Hall (Timaru) Rave an excellent recital of " Kissing Cup " m character, and fairly brought clown the house. ¥A::s White sand a negro lullaby in a very pleasing manner and Mr Cliff cbntribtuited a violijn solo which was well :.'ecoived. Mr I Grcsfcam was loudly encored for his song " When The Empire Calls," ai d- he responded with " Off 10 Philadelphia." Miss Higgens (Timaru) gave an excellent rendering of " Sunshine and rain," which the audience was not slow in appreciating, und iVlr Ben White scored a success with " Queen of Angels." In the second part of the programme the orchestra ftgain gave a selection, which delighted the audience and Mr G. Gimson won storms of applause for his song " Davy Jones's locker. Mr W. Hall gave a recitation in the character of a volunteer, and _ being encored responded with one in the character of a gold digger, _ loth of which took i'mmensly. Mis Yvhite also secured an encore for a sweet rendering of " The Cows are in the Clover," and Miss Higgens an imperative recall for her remarkably good rendering of Killarney " Mr Kelly (Timaru) sang " Good-bye Tolly' with considerable swing, but his singing was, very much marred by the noise of a heavy shower of rain on the roof of the hall. Miss Morrison gave a carefully studied rending of "Old London Town,' which was well received, and Mr Bom White and Mr J. R. Montgomery both contributed solos which were loudly ap-; plauded. At the close of the concert Mr Maslin thanked the r-udience for their support and the performers for their kind assistance. Accompaniments were played by Messrs R. White, J. S. Pye and Miss .Gii-v son.
