TIMARU GRAIN MARKETS. The markets are still very quiet. In wheat there is no change in prices (which are still nominal), owing to the market bei,n,g very bare of all grain, and to the fact that the new wheat is not ready yet. The market for fowl wheat is also very bare, business in oats is practically stagnant, and it is very difficult just now to get rid of old oats at any price. Buyers are waiting for new oats, and until the market is more set: tied, the opinion is that prices must fall lower than they now uio. So far only ono or two samples of new oats have been shown. Feed [barley is quoted at 2s 9d, f.0.b., but very little is doing. TIMARU PRODUCE MARKETS. The Canterbury Farmers' Co-opera-tive Association, Limited (per Mr J. Mundell, auctioneer), report on the horse market at Tattersall's yards for Saturday, aa follows : The sale was an exceptionally gooci orfe, the entry being very large, and comprising 78 horses of all clas ses, and an entry of 30 from the North Island on account of Messrs Hoult and Sons. Those offered sold under keen competition at satisfactory prices. We quote values as under : Draughts, young with trials, £35, £3(, £4O, £43 10s, £45, £4B to £SO ; do. light and aged, £lB, £2O 10s, £2l. £23, £25 10s, £27, £29, £3O; light harness horses, £l4, £lB, £22, to £25 hackneys, £B, £9, £l2 10s, £l4 to £ls. Messrs Hoult ,and Son's entry sold as follows :—Six year old bay gelding £48,-4yr old brown mare £43 4yr bay gelding £32, 3yr bay gelding £35, aged black mare £l6, 4yr bay bay gelding £39, 3yr bay gelding £37, 3yr bay mare by Manager £35, two 3yr bare mares £3O and £3l 10s, 5year bay mare £26 10s. Rutland, auctioneer, Beswick street, Timaru, reports on last week's sales as follows : Entries of pigs and poultry were smaller than the previous week. Prices ruled as follows :—Roosters 2s 6ci, j 3s, and 3s od, hens Is 9d to 2s 3 i ducks, 3s, 3s 3d, 3s 9d to 4s per pair,, geese 2s 6d and 2s 9d each. Pigs 13s 6d each. A line for which 15s was asked was withdrawn. A calf brought 9s and a spaniel 15s. In produce there was a large entry. Fowl wheat.7s,6d, 8s 6d, 10s, 12s and 16s per "sack; according to quality \; feed barley 12s ; oat seconds 4s 6d and 5s ; cabbages Is 6d to 2s per sack, all sacks in. A sale of 'secondbicycles resulted in 10 machines beingdisposed of at prices ranging from £1 12s 6d to £8 10s each. HOME MARKETS. LONDON, February 19. The' American visible supply of wheat is estimated at 80,957,000 bushels. February 20. The wheat markets arc quiet, but steady. Cargoes are unchanged. The Bradford wool market is restricted. Forty-sixes Is Id. The butter market is quieter and weaker ; Australian 96s to 98s ■; New Zealand 98s, occasional 'lots I.oos ; Danish is unchanged. Cheese is quiet, New Zealand 635. February 20. It is calculated that the net yield of the New Zealand loan is under 91. Mr Reeves states that the public have taken about 8 per cent. The attack on Australian finances, and the impending- Transvaal loan prejudiced the price. The Daily Mail says that the underwriters are saddled with 95 per cent, of the New Zealand loan.
