Geraldine School Committee.

The monthly meeting of the Geraldine School Committee was held on Thursday night. Present—Messrs T. Sherratt (chairman), Dyer, Bowkett, Maslin, McCaskey, and Kingston. The headmaster reported that the roll number was 223, and the average attendance had decreased since the examination. Correspondence was received from the Board, notifying that no trees growing on school grounds be cut down or destroyed without the consent of the board, and also making a recommendation from the Building re school furniture and .additional space. It was reported that £5 net had been iraised by the concert given by the Dramatic Club, and-Hhat this money had been expended on books for the children. In addition to this special prizes had been given by members of the selection •committee, air Thomas, and Mr F. E. .Flatman, M. H. R. The chairman had ■sent word to the several ministers in the town asking them to 'be present at the prize giving.—Votes of thanks were passed zo the Dramatic Club and the donors of prizes. A Bpecial vote of thanks was passed to Mr McCaskey for the free use of his office, ■which the committee had enioyed so long, and regret was expressed that he was leaving the district. Mr McCaskey.s ■services had been of great advantage to the •committee and school, and he would be missed not only by those interested in •school matters but by the district generally. The chairman reported that the number ■of Indian clubs and wands on hand was mot sufficient for the school, and Mr Montgomery, knowing the low state of the school funds, had kindly given what was was required. He thought the thanks of tthe committee were due to the headmaster, <ind also to Mrs Montgomery, who had fudged the sewing at the recent examination. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr and Mrs Montgomery. The report of the examination was received from.the Board, and the committee ■were pleased to note tbe improvement ia the school, and considered the report very satisfactory. The secretary, Mr T. Kingston, asked to •be relieved of his office as he wa3 leaving the town. Tbe resignation was received <with regret, and a vote of thanks passed to Mr Kingston for his valuable services as a member of the committee and as secretary. The meeting then terminated.
