CRICKET.
The first senior cup match, Temuka v. Timaru, was played at Temuka on Thurs day afternoon, and resulted in a draw. 'Temuka batted first and put t-gother 154 for nine wickets before retiring. Timaru had 12 runs together aud fhreo wickets down when A. B. White and Dr Oox got together and began to put on runs freely, although both bad several lives owing to loose fielding. White was caught by Brown off one of Hayes’ slows, but Cox’s fresh partner, Gresson, added to the'score still more freely. With Oox not out, and a man to bat, Ttma.u had 139 runs together when time was called. Mrs T. B. Brown dispensed afternoon tea with her usual lavish hospitality. There was a fair attend‘uca of onlookers. The following are the scores :

Unfortunately Temuka could only get together 9 men, but despite this the match was a pretty close one, and very enjoyable, Ashburton only winning by 15 runs.
