A Motor Bicycle.

THE FIRIST IN NEW ZEALAND. Mr Every, manager for Mr Jessep, of the ■StelK Cycle Works, Temuka, has just fitted up a motor bicycle—the first in New Zealand —and yesterday he had a brief trial of it on the roads and on the cycling tract at Temuka. The machine still wants a certain amount of finish, but so far it is working very satisfactorily. The generating fluid is " petrol," and the nominal power is equal to that of an engine of I|horse power. The bicycle is similar in shape to the ordinary machines in use, for the special mechanism, which is carried on the saddle bar, can be attached to any machine. If desired, the ordinary pedal action can be used. Th-i total weight of the machine with all its gear is about 75 weight. It is estimated that a normal speed can be attained of 20 miles an hour, but under favourable conditions up to about 3(.l miles an hour can be reached. This machine will be on view at the' principal shows, and is certain to attract a great deal of attention. Mr Every ha 3 shown a great deal of enterprise in connection with the devolopnient of cycles, and this, his latest production, is bound to meet with enquiry. When worked yesterday univeral attention was directed to the speed and suioothness with, which the machine travelled, and there being little noise or vibration horses which were passed showed no fear.
