South Orari.

The annual treat and distribution of prizes took place here on Friday last. The children received an abundant supply of good things, and spent an enjoyable afternoon by engaging in a variety of games. There was a large assemblage af parents anp friends, who took a lively' intesest in the proceedings. It was very gratifying to have the presence of Mr Flatman, M.H.E. who seems to take a deep interest in the welfare of the young. On being introduced by Mr Pnsor, chairman of committee, ho made some fitting remarks, and referred to the necessity of regularity af attendance. an the part of the children, thereby strengthening the hands of the taachers and benefiting themselves. He had observed that the chief prize-takers in the schools he had visited, were the best attendee, and he expressed his pleasure at being able to present so many first class attendance certificates on this occasion. Mr Ensor, in calling for three cheers for the teachers, congratulated them on the satisfactory report made by the inspector, notwithstanding the difficulties under which they had all worked during the past year. The thauks of the public are due to the committee, who so assiduously worked, and to the ladies, who so ungrudgingly gave their service in giving such a delightful treat to the children. The parents and friends bad afternoon tea in the school, and there was a dance in the evening, when Mr J. Bracefield performed the duties of M.C. in a most acceptable maimer.
