GERALDINE STOCK SALE.

Notwithstanding the bad state of the roads there was a very fair attendance at the Geraldine fortnightly sale yesterday, the entry of sheep being about 1200. Fo ward wethers sold for 13a 6d, aged ewes in lamb 13*, hoggets 10a 6d to 12s. There were only two he .d of cattle in, and there was no entry of pigs. Mr Muudell held a clearing sale cf household furniture and effects after the stock sale, after which country people attending the sale enjoyed half an-hour’a snowballing, uuTl a fen young fellows began to make things lively for persons in traps returning homo, when Constable Mullaney put a stop to their fun.

ASHBURTON STOCK SALE. There was a good attendance on Tuesday, notwithstanding the bad weather. About 2500 sheep and eight head of cattle were yarded. Prices were fair. Butchers' sheep. —Crossbred ewes 9s 9d to 13d 2d, merino ewes 7s 6d to 8s 6d, crossbred ewes as.d wethers 12s 9J, freezers 14s 9J. Stores.— Merino wethers 5i Cd to os 7d, lambs 12a 8d to 13s, memo owes in lamb 9.*, crossbred ewes in lamb 15s. Cattle.—Heifers £3 10s to £5 2s Cd, steers £3 10s, stores £2 10a.

CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. The inclement weather of the past week lias materially affected the deliveries of grain, and the weakness in the London market has restricted business for Home shipment. Most of the sales reported as having taken place last week were in fulfilment of contracts which had been made a month ago, and the consignments were delivered to fill space by steamer leaving Lyttelton almost immediately. A few small lines have been taken by local millers on tho basis of 2s 4.Jd for Tuscan, 2s 4d for Pearl, and 2s 3£d for Hunters, all f.o.b. Holders are showing a little more inclination to sell, but are not being met by buyers to any extent. Beyond a few sales of small lines for feed purposes, nothing is doing in oats. The Sydney mark et is still glutted with both onions and potatoes, and although plenty of both are offering locally virtually no business has taken place. The following are quotations : Wheat Prime milling pearl aod tuscan 2a sd, average quality 2s 3J, prime milling hunters 2s 3d, fuir average quality 23 2d. Barley—Prime malting (nominal) 3s, secondary parcels 2s 3d to 2s 6d delivered. Cape Barley—2s to 2s 2d. Oats—Milling Canadians, Is 6d ; short feed, Is 3d to Is 5d ; duns, Is 4d ; dauitsh Is 3d ; tartariau, la 3£d. Flour—Millers quote roller £7, stone £6, sharps £3 10s, bran £3. Oatmeal—£Blos. Oat-sheaf Chaff—33s 6d at country stations. Potatoes Derweuts (nominal), 10a to 15s at country stations. Ouious—Nominal, 40a at Christchurch. '■Beans— 2s 6d to 2s 7d. Peas—Blue Prussiaus, 2s Dd to 3s. Ryegrass—Farmers' dressed lines, Is 3d to Is 9d for fair, and up to 2s Gd for prime heavy farmers' seed. Cocksfoot—Farmers' dressed lines, 3d to for bright seed. Uowgrasß —sd to Gd. White clover, farmers' lines, sjd to 7d. Cheese—3£d to 4d; loaf, 4d to sd; factory, large, 4d to 4^d. Butter Fresh local factory, Is 2d ; North Island do, Is ; ditto in boxes, 9d to lOd ; best dairy, 8d to 9J ; salt, in boxes, 7d, for prime. Bacon and hams, 7|d toß|d ; factory Jd per lb higher.
