Among the effects of the snowstorm has been to stimulate some persons to try their hands at modelling. In various parts of the district snow men and snow women were modelled. Some of the attempts were indifferent enough, but some were very good. The modellers are not likely to again have such an opportunity for displaying their artistic powers in this district for years. In bunco at Christchurch, on Tuesday, Mr Justice Denuiston dealt with a Timaru case, Timaru Milling Co. v. Common, Skelton & Co., merchants, of Gisborne, claim £2430 damages for breach of contract entered into in April, 1898, to purchase 600 tons of flour at £ll f.0.b,, Timaru, to be delivered in twelve months. Plaintiffs asserted the contract, and that the defendants took 60 tons and then refused to receive the remaining 540 tons. Defendants denied that they had entered into any such contract, and denied that plaintiffs had suffered any loss, as flour had gone op in price. They had bought all the flour they could sell from the plaintiff, and the GOO tons that had been mentioned was only an estimate of possible requirements. The Judge did not deal with the question of damages, bnt found for the plaintiffs that a good contract existed, as they had contended. Costs, £3O, were allowed to the plaintiffs. Messrs H. D. Bell and Kinnerney (instructed by Mr J. W, White) were for plaintiffs, and Mr DeLantour, Gisborne, for defendants.
