Mr J, Hutcheson states that he will contest the seat he has resigned as au Independent Liberal. The Opposition party has decided not to put any caudinate into the field in opposition to Mr Hutcheson. Mr J. J. R. Powtll, who was one of the candidates for Wellington at the General Election, will be a candidate. The election roll for Wellington City, after being thoroughly purged, and with the addition of new claims, now contains tha names of about 17,000 electors. The question of tha issue of the writ has been allowed to stand over until to morrow. It has been found that the rolls must be re-printed before the election can take place, and the issue of the writ will depend upon when the printing can be completed. June 6. Mr H. Fielder, furniture dealer, is mentioned as another candidate for Wellington. The Trades Conncil, by a large majority, placed on record its confidence in Iff John Hutcheson,
