HILTON.

[From Pur Own Correspondent ] The animal meeting of the householders, overshadowing in its importance all othar events, quite put our political meeting in tho shade. Air Flatman, our member, came to givo us an account <«f the psat session of Parliament, and was received by an audience of about 00 inside, and a number more outside, the school. Mr Flatiusm spoke for about an hour and a-half, and received a vote of thanks and confidence. Mr It. Skinner occupied the chair, and commented ou the rarity of members' visits to Hilton after elections were once over. A few questions were asked and answered before an orderly meeting broke up. Tho schowl was iu use as a polling booth for tho Koad Board election on Wednesday last, and, in spite of the attractions of Geraldine Fair, a considerable number of voters came to record their votep, amongst them being a number from the Opihi end of the district, who seemed taking an unusual amount of interest in public affairs this year. After several extremelj warm days rain fell very heavily on Wednesday night, filling all tho creeks to the brim, but no cold wind came with it this time. Traction engines, with their trains of mill, camp-house, etc., have been travelling round and about Hilton lately, threshing all the remaining stacks. Owing to the soft state of the ground, some trouble has teen experienced lately in getting about, and now one engine can be Been made snug half way up a hilly paddock, whether berthed for the winter or only waitiug for a dry day does not appear.
