CONCERT.

At the Volunteer Hall, Geraldine, on Friday night, a concert was held under the auspices of the Geraldine Ladies' Sewing Guild, when, although the proceeds were for local charities, there was only a fair attendance of the public. The Rev. Jas. Preston acted as ohairman, anp before the programme was opeued ho tendered an apology for Mrs F. Barker, one of the performers, who was unable to be present. The rev. gentleman also made a few remarks as to the worthy object for which the concert was held, stating that there was no intention on the part of the promoters of it to run counter with any other benevolent fund, but the ladiea of Geraldine simply wished to raise some money for the relief of the local poor iu times of distress, especially during the winter. The promoters of the concert wore Mrs Dunlop and Mr E. Robsou. After this the first part of the programme was opened with " My Polly " (waltz) by the orchestra, which comprised:—Conductor, Mr E. Robsoa; pianist, Miss Dunlop; violins, Miss M. Dunlop, Messrs W. G. Masliu, W. E. Collins, F. Maslin, VV. Maslin; clarionet, Mr C. Crowe; cornet, Mr C. E Heatley; bass, Mr W. A. Sherratt. This item went with a good swing aud was loudly applauded. Mr Guy Pym followed with a successful rendering of "The Lads in Red," and Miss M. Morrison got a very gratifying reception for "The Distant Shore," which was Bung with exceptional sweetness. Miss Dunlop and Mr Robaon contributed a duet " The Wind and the Harp," which elicited loud applause, as did also Miss Elerig's pleasing rendition of " Kate O'Shaue." Mr P. D. Herdman waa iu excellent voice, and sang « The Garonne " with beautiful expression. Mr W. E. Collins secured a well-deserved encore for a violin solo, and Mr R. A. Borrows gave decidedly good rendering of " Mary of Argyle," which the audience was not slow to appreciate. Miss Dooley was heard to great advantage in " The Song that reaohed My Heart," which delighted the audience so much that an encore was demanded, but the programme being a long one it was not responded to. Mr E. sang in good style "A Warrior Bold," and the first part of the programme concluded with au amußiDg duet, in character, by Messrs Kraus and Mcllroy eutitled " The Irish Mechanics." Herdman did full justice to the song "I Love but Thee," and Miss Gibaou gave a Dice rendering of "Love's Golden Dream." Mr Guy Pym came next with a capital song, " Off to Philadelphia," which was succeeded by au effective duet," Army and Navy " by Meßßrs Borrows aud Robson. Mr T. Kiugston won considerable applause for his rendering of " She Wore a Wreath of Roses," and Miss Dunlop sang "The Love Tide" to the satisfaction of the audience and with great credit to herself. Mr R. A. Borrows's powerful voice was well adapted for the stirring song "Let Me like a Soldier Fall," of which he gave a most effective rendering, which elicited an enthusiastic encore. "The Little Alabama Coon" was iu good hands with Miaß Elerig, the audience being delighted with her treatment of the negro lullaby. Miss M. Morrison never sang more sweetly than on Friday night, her singing of "Love's Old Sweet Soug" being a perfect treat, for which she was recalled. Messrs Mollroy aud Kraus brought the programme to au end with another of their humorous duets " Conrad Cooper's Baud," which sent the audience home ia a good humour. The accompaniments during the evening were played by Miss Fish. Before; separating, the National Anthem was sung, aud the Rev. Mr Preston proposed a vote of thanks to the performers and ako to the promoters of th 3 concert—Mrs Dunlop and Mr Robsou.
