LABOR ITEMS.

Sydney, May G. If anything the colliery strike is extending. Tho miners have induced the men of the several pits where the 1888 agreement is not being carried out to join in the movement for the reinstatement of those terms. The masters strongly oppose, because in 1888 the selling price of coal was 11a per ton. The Government intend to convert the Pitt Town village settlement, which has proved a failure, into a casual labor farm, under the control of the Department of Labor and Industry. Other village settlements in the colony have been more successful, but the heavy cost precludes any further extension of tho system. May 7. The Delegates’ Board resolved to submit the question whether the whole of the strike dispute should bo referred to arbitration. The board refused the offer of Mr Brown, owner of the New Lambton colliery, to leave the miners at work, but will refer the matter to the district lodge.
