London, May G. Mr Asquith, formerly Homo Secretary, moved the rejection of the \ oluntary Schools Bill. He declared that the measure would paralyse the department and cripple the boards. He threatened a stubborn and protracted opposition to the Bill. May 7. ' The Sunday Closing Bill was read a second time by a majority of fight, but it was a snap division. The measure provides that public-houses iu England are to be closed all Sunday except to lodgers and travellers. In the House of Commons, Mr Hausbury, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, said that tenders for tho Indian and Australian mail service would be iuvited at a minimum speed of 13$ knots. No European port of call was mentioned, but Mr Hansbury explained that if Marseilles showed letter results than Brindisi, the Postmaster-General would be free to chose that route. Tenders for a fast Cauadian-Euglish service to begin in May, 1888, will bo received up to June 10th.
