THE BRUNNERTON DISASTER.
Christchurch, May G, At a meeting of the executive of the Brunner Relief Fund yesterday MrG. G. Stead, hon. treasurer, reported that .£4770 was lying to the credit of the fund in the Union Bank. Ho understood that Lyttelton, Timaru, Akaroa, and Ashburton between them had collected nearly an additional £IOOO. As over £GOO had been remitted direct to the West Coast without going through the committee, it would bo seen that considerably over £GOOO had been contributed by Canterbury. The Mayor and Mr G. G. Stead were appointed delegates to the conference convened by the Premier in Wellington to decide as to the disposal of the fund. A resolution was carried that it was desirable that the whole of the funds should be applied to the relief of those who had su fibred through the disaster.
