Temuka—Tuesday, May sth, 1890. [Before C. A. Wray, Esq., S.M., and Messrs Hayhurst and Twomey, J.P.’s.j DRUNKENNESS. A man who had once before appeared before the Court for a similar offence was charged on remand with having been helplessly drunk in the public street. He had received medical treatment in Timaru. He was now severely cautioned and ordered to pay 295, costs incurred. PROHIBITION. The same accused offered no objection to the issue of a prohibition order against himself, to take effect in the Pareora Licensing District and to South Rangitata. ASSAULT. J. Leonard, a young native, was charged with assaulting Win. Newton, another native lad. The accused admitted striking the complainant. It appeared that the complainant was sleeping in the meeting house and lying late, when the accused pulled the blanket off him and struck him. Accused’s version was that a mutual squabble took place. He had only called Newton to his breakfast. His Worship, after closely questioning both parties, gave the accused a severe caution. Ho appeared to be a bully, and must be checked. Ho would be Sued the coats, ss, and discharged. LUNACY. James Liudsay, who had attempted suicide by cutting his throat at the Crown Hotel on Friday lust, was, on the certificates of Drs Sir Wm. Blundon and J. S. Hayes, formally committed as a lunatic to Seaclilf Asylum.
