Ladies desirous of joining the class are requested to communicate with Mrs Archibald, Geraldine.

Ae with the other concerts, the entertainment will bo given by Sunday school scholars and their friends. The programme is said to be a very attractive one, and, with the very low price of admission and the deserving nature of the object, ought to secure a large attendance.

Timaru Show.— The thirtieth annual show of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association takes place to-day and to-morrow on the Association’s ground, Wai-iti Road. To-day. as usual, will be devoted to the judging of the sheep and the usual preliminary work, to-morrow being the “ people’s day.” The entries this year considerably exceed last year, and if the weather proves favorable—and in the past the association has always been favored with line weather—the show will doubtless be an immense success. Those intending to travel to Timaru by rail should peruse the notice appearing in our advertising columns re fares and arrangements. Shooting. —The following are the names of the team who are to represent the Temuka Rifles in their match with the Waimate Rifles on Wednesday (to-morrow). This match is to be fired with the MartiniHenri rifles, and great interest is being taken in it. There was a healthy rivalry as to who should be included iu the team, aud the matter was decided by firing off. The names are :—Lieut. Whitehead, Sergts. Hobbs, Sim, and Levens, Corpls. Radburnd, Chapman, and Nicholas, Privates Philips, S. Douglas, Q. Collins, W, Collins, and Sheen ; emergency, Private Storey. A drag will leave Mr E. C. Dann’s shop at 5.15 a.ra. sharp to catch the first train south from Timaru. The riflemen are advised to carry a light meal. Land Board. —At the last meeting of the Canterbury Land Board at Christchurch it was re olved to declare a large number of leases forfeited for non-payment of rents due, the lessees having failed either to pay or make satisfactory excuses for non-payment, the holdings being principally in Waimate, Studholme Junction, Hinds, Chertsey, Medbury, Rabbit Island, and Cheviot. Applications for relief from the holders of run !)5, Hunter River, and small grazing run 43, Alford Forest, were deferred for consideration pending the result of projected legislation. Several applications for leases of reserves for Crown lands were received aud dealt with. Successful Work,— Mr Edwards has very successfully removed a two roomed house for Mr Gaffaney from his farm, on the road to Timaru, to a section in Wood street, Temuka. The plant and traction engine which removed it belongs to Mr W. Walker. Waitohi, and consist of the two front wheels of two threshing mills, with two manuka axle beds. This plant worked splendidly, and the house was brought along the road road without scarcely a nail being started. The windows remained intact, only a pain or two of glass being broken in a bay-window. The road, of course, was excellent, with the exception of the bridges, on which there were only two inches of space between the house and the rails on either aide, and consequently it took very careful training to keep it from fouling. The start was made at 2 p.m., and by 8 p.m. the house was landed at the section in Temuka. The work was excellently done, and the plant answered well. Both Messrs Edwards and Walker deserve great credit for the way they removed the house. I.O.G.T.—An open meeting of the Star of Orari Lodge, No. 12, was held on Wednesday evening, Bro. Dalton, D.D., in the chair. There was a large number of members and friends present, also visitors from Geraldine and Temuka Lodges. After an opening address by the chairman, the. following members contributed to the evening’s entertain cent: Bros. Cain and Barr (Temuka), MaHia and Heatley (Geraldine), Dalton, Stewart, Ensor, and R Henderson, also Sisters Gruickshanks (Temuka), Wilks, May, and Gross. All the items were given in capital style. Daring an interval refreshments were handed round. The meeting was closed by the chairman in the usual way. [The above report has been forwarded to us apparently from the Lodge, bub it was signed by no one, and consequently we do not know whether it is genuine or not. Times out of number we have announced that we would taka no notice of communications unaccompanied by some one’s name, and yet people are stupid enough to neglect this very simple injunction. We get such communications frequently, and, no doubt, the senders wonder why they do not appear. The reason is that they are not authenticated by having some one’s name to them. If tho Orari Lodge or any other body desire to have their on nmunications published they must be signed by some one. The name will not bo published, but we must know who sent it so that we can fall back on the sender if there is anything wrong.]

S.(J. Saleyakds Co.—The annual meetmgr of shareholders in the South Canterbury Saleyards Company (Washdyke) should have been held at Timaru on Saturday', but was adjourned for a week owing to a quorum not turning up. The aunual report of the directors discloses a very gloomy state of things. During the year only 3324 sheep, 10G rams, and 38 horses had been yarded. The directors report: “ Sales at the yards have uow practically dwindled away to nothing, and the only sheep sale held since we last met you was the special ram and ewe sale held under the auspices of the Timaru A. & P. Association, and which, with the exception of the horse sales, provided the entire revenue from yard fees. There have been 30,GG3 sheep dipped, as against 32,01 G hist year, a decrease of 1353. S.C. Refrigerating Company, —At an extraordinary general meeting of the South Canterbury Refrigerating Company in Timaru on Saturday, the special resolutions passed at a meeting on the sth instant were confirmed : (1) that the company be wound up voluntarily, and (2) that Messrs E. Acton and G. F. Clulee be appointed liquidators at a remuneration of £lO each. In reply to a question, the chairman said the shareholders would be repaid their subscribed capital at once on producing their scrip. The division of accumulated profits must stand over until the direction of Judge Dennistoun had been obtained.

Attack on Sir Walter Buller.— ln consequence of the attack on Sir Walter Buller by the Minister of Lands on Friday night. Sir Walter has addressed a letter to the Premier, asking him whether Mr McKenzie’s remarks have the authority or approval of himself or his colleagues. Sir Walter Boiler adds a categorical statement, denying that he has been a party to any sales by natives of land in the Horowhonua Block, except of two small sections, 8 acres and 4 acres, for which he paid Major Kemp £lO per acre in October last year. He advanbed Kemp £SOO on mortgage to enable him to test the Horowhenua question in the Supreme Court. Sir Walter Buller has also written to Mr McKenzie, challenging him to repeat his statements in some way not covered by Parliamentary privilege, in order that he may have the opportunity of justifying himself , and falsifying the statements.

Those who never read the advertisements in their newspapers miss more than they presume. Jonathan Kenison, of Bolan, Worth Co., lowa, who had been troubled with rheumatism in his back, arms, and shoulders, read an item in his paper about how a prominent German citizen of Ft. Madison had been cured. He procured the same medicine, and to use his own words: “It cured me right up.” He also says : A neighbor and his wife were both sick in bed with rheumatism. Their boy was over to my house and said they were so bad that he had to do the cooking. I told him of Chamberlain’s Pain Balm and how it had cured me; he procured a bottle of it, and it cured them up in a week.—For sale by J. C. Oddie, Temuka, and Morrison Bros. Geraldine.
