CYCLING SPORTS AT GERALDINE.

The opening of the cycling season was recognised on Thursday by the Central Amateur Cycling Club, Geraldine, with a procession through the town by cyclists and “ Opening Day Sports ” m the Domain. The day was fine, but a pot’wester blew across the track, making it difficult for wheelmen to record good time. There was a fair attendance of the public, and taken all round the afternoon sports may be considered very successful, seeing that it was not one of the dub’s ordinary meetings, but simply a few races amongst members. Of the officials who worked hard to make the small gathering a success we might mention the president (Mr R. H. Fearpoint), the captain (Mr J. W. Pye), and the secretary (Mr G. Hazleton). Mr J. P. Kalaugher was the , handicapper as usual, and Mr A. Erskiue acted as starter. The track was in fair order, and the arrangements for the meeting wore most complete. The races were confined exclusively to members of the club, and gave the following results : One Mile Bicycle Race First prize, Trophy (Excelsior Manufacturing Co., Christchurch) ; second, Trophy. A. On Thursday evening, at the Volunteer Hail, the Club hold a social, which went off very pleasantly, although the number of couples present was not so large as is usual at the club’s popular socials. Capital music was supplied by Messrs Levens, Temuka, and W, Owers, Timaru, and .Mr J. Minos made a model M.C. The numbers of the club and thoir lady friends are worthy of credit for the excolKnr, calming, and the tasteful mann r in which the goods things were arranged on the tables. A most enjoyable d nice was brought to a close at an early lumr on Frid iy morning. During the evening the Preddent,Mr R. H. Pearpoijjt, presented the orders to the successful prize- takers. The committee deserve every credit for the success pi both the meeting and the social.
