AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

The adjourned meeting of the Arowhenua Town Board was held on Tuesday evening last. Present Messrs Ashwell (chairman), Brown, Carr, and Russell. CORRESPON DENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From the clerk of Town Board, Geraldine, replying to the clerk re Roman Catholic property being exempt from rates, replying that sub-section 3 of section 2 of “ The Rating Act, 1894,” decided the question that manses are rateable property, From the Audit Inspector, enclosing j account for auditing the board’s books, £1 13s 4d. From Auditor-General, enclosing balance sheets. From clerk Temuka Road Board, acknowledging receipt of letter from the board and replying that the road board regret that this board cannot see their way clear to accept the offer made re culvert at junction of Middle Swamp Road. Copies of the following new Bills were on the table:—“Stock Act Amendment Act,” “ The Betterments Act,” “ Corrupt Practices Prevention Amendment Act,” and “ The Fair Rent Act.” ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £6 Os lOd were passed for payment. GRAVEL RESERVE NO, 2768. The chairman and clerk said that they had had verbal applications for the lease of the gravel reserve 2768 from Messrs Williams and Eaglestoue. It was resolved—“ That the clerk write to the applicants verbally applying for the reserve that it will be necessary for each of them to tender in writing to the board, enclosing first half year’s rent, commencing Ist October, 1895.” OVERSEER’S REPORT. ( The overseer reported that the dividing fence between Mr Simpson’s reserve and the board’s premises had been satisfactorily completed, also the bridge erected by Mr Webb. The contractor for the formation of East Town Belt road had not completed his contract. The shingling ordered by the board was not completed, owing to the dry weather. The board then rose.
