The Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative Association, Limited (per Mr J. Mundell, auctioneer), report on the horse and cattle market at Tattersall's yards, on Saturday : —The entry was smaller than usual, but the competition was keen for all youug sound stock, resulting in a clearance of this description of horses at the following quotations :—Draughts, young, with trial, £l3, £l4 10s, £ls, to £l6; do light and aged, £lO to £l2 10s; light harness sorts, £9, £l2, to £l3 ; hackneys, £7 to £810s; weeds and scrubbers all prices, from £2 to 10s.

London, October 17. A South Australian wheat cargo, ex barque Primus, sold at 25s 3d. , It is reported that Mr Bergl has arranged to ship 10,000 quarters of beef monthly from the Bowen and Gladstone works in Queensland, beginning in March next. The butter market is excited, on account of stocks being small, and the prospect of light supplies until December. The Orient's finest realised 120 s, and fine 116 s. Danish has advanced 10 kroner, and the London price is 1345. The beef importers, with Mr Forrest presiding, have held another meeting, and appointed a committee to formulate rules with a view to making another attempt at combination. October 18. A trial shipment of Ontario apples has been sent to Australia. The weekly returns of the Bank of England, published to-day, show the total reserve to be £31,434,000, and the proportion of reserve to liabilities 56.92 per cent. Melbourne, Oct. 20. The annual report of the Savings Bank shows an increase for the year of depositors' balances of £246,000. The Commissioners report that a marked feature of the year's business has been the development of loans to farmers, and that the sytem is bacomiug highly popular.
