The Duncdin Chamber of Commerce passed the following resolution to be forwarded to the Minister of Justice and other chambers —"ln the opinion of this chamber any assignment of book debts ought to be void unless the assignment is registered under the Chattels Transfer Act, 1870, which ought to be altered to enable such registration." It was unanimously resolved that in the opinion of the chamber it is essential in the due administration of justice to all classes of the community, | that all District Court Judges and I Stipendiary Magistrates with extended jurisdiction should hlod their appointments during good behaviour, with their salaries fixed by statute. A copy of the resolution is to be sent to the Minister of Justice. Martin's Bay.—Mr Campbell, of Bald Hill Flat, concerning whose safety fears were expressed, informs the Wakatipu Mail that there was much less snow at the West Coast than in that district, and that his horses, left at Lake Howden, had improved very much in condition. He is in raptures over the Martin's Bay district, and says it is a place he could wish to live and die in. The scenery is more like what he has read about in fairy tales, but he had never seen it in reality before. He states that he has made up his mind to settle down there, and will induce as many families as he can to go over, also that Martin's Bay only requires to be known to become a prosperous settlement. The origin apparently of the report of Mr Campbell's probable loss was that his followed his companion, MrPhilp, who left a fortnight before, and having deserted the latter, the doj; a few days afterwards arrived at the Greenstone alone.
