CHINA AND JAPAN.
Shanghai, April 8. Japan claims that China should open for trade with the world districts of 1000 square miles in extent, which contain two hundred millions people ; the cession of Formosa, southern Manchuria (including Port Arthur), and an indemnity of 2,000,000 francs; also the independence of Corea. London, April 8. The Times considers that these terms are reasonable. April 9. The districts which Japan insists shall be thrown open to the world include the course of the Yang-tse-Kiang as far as Chung King Foo, a town in the far interior, the main portion of the Shanghai aud Canton rivers, aud the Woosuug canal. Chung King, Quchoofoo, Soochow, aud Haugchu, are to be free cities. Forty Japanese transports are at the Pescadores, aud it is reported that an attack on Canton is intended. Yokohama, April 8. Li Hung Chang has recovered from the wound inflicted by a Japanese fanatic.
