GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above board was held yesterday. Present— Messrs F. R. Flatmau (chairman), Kelland, Metcalf, Deßenzy, and K. Brophy. COKKESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read aud dealt with as follows : From six ratepayers, Gapea’s Valley, requesting board to forward work passed at last meeting viz , the shingling of the road from Squire’s to Davie’s.—Teodors to be invited next hoard day. From Mr. T. !I. Taylor, Belficld, asking the board to supply him with a boat to ship his grain to the station.—Mr Taylor should have complained to the Water Race Committee.

From Geraldine Com ty Oonuoil, sending council’s resolution with respect to board’s request re valuation. From six ratepayers, Gapes’ Valley, petitioning the board to have road metalled and improved known as Tagg’n road ; also the road leading to McCaskill’s. —The overseer to report. Gorsa to be cleared off the line of road, and Land Board to be asked to sanction the expenditureof thirds accrued. From Mr Wm, Postletb waite, stating that he would throw no obstacle in the way of the road being closed that leads on to Mrs Geaneyfs property. From Mr F. Burns, Baukapuka, applying for transfer of road.—The board agreed to sbo ish the road as applied for; the necessary steps to be taken. From Mr John W. Jones, Kakahu Basil, re deviation of road.—Mr Sh ew to repovt on Soobie’s road. From Lands and Survey Department, stating that the Laud Board had already approved of proposes for the expenditure of the funds from all sections at Orari which pay thirds, and the shingling of Slack street was not one of such approved

works. If it is proposed to divert any of the thirds from the works already agreed upon, the consent of the settlers whose moneys are to be so diverted would have to be obtained—No work can be done until settlers agree. From same, enclosing schedule of sections in Board’s district which furnish “ thirds and fourths” and requesting that board make proposals for expenditure of all rents accrued and to accrue—No ex pendituro required on the frontages at present, roads in most cases formed by board years since. INTERVIEWS. Messrs Lynn, Gregan, and Bennett waited on the board with reference to cutting on Lynn’s toad—it was decided to call tenders for earth work. Mr B. B. Macdonald, waitad on the board requesting that a road be made on the land somewhere near Mr W. K. Macdonald’s house.—Overseer to report. Mr E. MiiTphy interviewed the board wanting a drain cleaned out near his property. Left with the overseer to attend to.

TENDERS. Tenders were opened as under ;—No 441, Taylor’s Road, Rangiiata Plains— Daniel Grogan, £23195; Silas Webb £33; M. Gregan £2l 10s; James Da>vis, £2O ; Mr Lawlor, £lB ; Timothy Sugrne, £l4 10 (accepted). No 442, 200 bushels of oats—T. Bates (dun oats) Is 3d per bushel; Daniel Gregan (uo sample) Is 3d per bushel; Robert Clephane (short tartars) Is 2d per bushel. Bates’ tenders was informal, as the samples were not as good as the board wanted. It was left with the overseer to arrange for the purchase o f oats. overseer’s report. The overseer leported : -The undermentioned have been completed since last meeting of the board, viz.:—l. Shingling Railway Railway Road Reserve 389. 2. Formation and Sheep Dip road Beautiful Valley. 3. Lynn’s Road-—the work on this contract is still incomplete, owing to Mr Lynn requiring soma extra work, otherwise it would. have be on finished. The original contractors now wish to have the work transferred to another contractor. No work is being done, pending the decision of the bo id. Worhs authorised—Owing to the la-ter work not facing completed I have deferred letting the contract for the extension of this road, iu clearing bush aud fencing the embankment, as the latter cannot be done nutil the earthwork is finish*!. Gilbert’s Road, Gapes’ Valley—The contract for shingle ou this road has also been held over, as 1 was informed that a petition was to be presented asking for the hills to be cut down before any shingle was put ou the road. The whole of the contracts let during the year are now compled with the exception of Lynn’s Road. Balance Sheet—l have prepared the annual balance sheet.—l have’eto., 1 Wm. Shiees, Overseer.

The report was read sod considered satisfactory. It was arranged that freah tenders be iuvited when present work if completed at Lynn's road. Resolred thai the work at Gilbert's road, Gapes' Valley, be gone ou with.' The balance-sheet was considered very satisfactory. PAY-SHEET. The pay-sheet for the month amonntod to £oo 4s 2d. ANNUAL MEETING. It was resolved that the annual meeting be held ou Mouday, May 6th. ELECTIOK. It was decided that, the eleection be held on Tuesday, May 7th. The board then rase.
