LABOUR, ETC. Sydney, Jan. 22. As a mass meeting under the auspices of the Active Service Brigade a resolution was passed protesting agaiust capitalistic Government in Italy and expressing a hope that the workers would establish a social democracy aud republic. Jan 23. The Labour Conference passed resolutions affirming that it is the duty of the Government to provide work forthoss willing to do it, and urging on the Parliament in each colony to take action to establish a Department of Labor. Melbourne, Jan. 23. A difficulty has arisen between the Wharf Labourers' Union and the Howard Smith Shipping Company. The latter notified their iutentiou to reduce the rates for unloading coal to ]s per hour all round during the day, and to Is Gd per hour at night. When the steamer Ago arrived yesterday there were no wharf labourers on hand to unload the vessel, but froe mon wt ro soon secured, aud the work wub proceeded with, MATABJSLBLAKD. Capetown, Jan. 21.
