DISASTKOUS HURRICANE. Sydney, March 29. A correspondent writing to the Press Association from Ambrym, in the New Hebrides, says : " The cyclone has smitten the Island from shore to hill tops. All the native food supply has been destroyed, and the mission buildings swept away. The desolation is unutterable, and only four huts remain standing. The population of the Island are almost starving, and help is urgently needed. One trader with Ins boat's crew perished, and two or three other boats were also wrecked with their crews. We saw the poor creatures fly past before the wind, their sails blowing away, so great was the power of the hurricane, as they rushed through the pitiless sea. The islands Api, Mallicollo, and Ambyrm, in the New Hebrides Group, suffered most severely during the storm. The last two were covered with millions of cocoanut trees, and these, along with all coffee plantations, have been destroyed. Not a blade of grass remains. A small ketch capsized; a native was the only survivor, and he only got ashore after being fourteen hours in the water. A , l °t also capsized, and all its occupants were drow.
