Newlands Educational Reserve.— At the last meeting of the Timaru High School Board a letter was read from Mr Rhodes, M.H.R., inquiring if the board had come to any determination with regard to the reserve at Newlands, which the board had been asked to cut up before re-letting it in May next. Mr Gibson (who with Mr Balfour was appointed to examine the reserve and report on the adviflability or otherwise of cuttting it up) reported that he and Mr Balfour arranged four several times to go out next day, and each time the morning proved wet. They intended to go as soon as possible. He thought nothing had been lost, however, as they had made many inquiries, and from the best information they had, they concluded that it would pay the Board to cut it up. Some people even thought it would increase their revenue from the block by 50 ptr cent. That was probably an over sanguine estimate, but he had not doubt it would be of the Board's interests.—After some discussion it was resolved—" That reserve 1400 be sub-divided into suitable blocks, and that Messrs Balfour and Gibson « appointed a committee and employ Mr Meason, and with his assistance to report to a special meeting upon the best method of cutting up the reserve."
