London, Jan. 19. Ben Tillet has been committed for trial on a charge of inciting at Bristol. The Cabinet have approved of the formation of a Labor Department on lines superior to the bureau in France and America. The Right Hon. Mr Mundella, President, and the Right Hon. Mr Burt, Under-Secretary to the Board of Trade, are arranging details. Mr Mann refused to be one of the officials. Jan. 20. A number of members of the House of Commons will support Mr J. Lowther’s amendment to the Address-in-Reply, aimed at preventing the influx of destitute aliens into Great Britain. The distress among the cotton operatives is greater than has ever been since the American war, and there appears to be no prospect of a settlement of the dispute between masters and men. Amsterdam, Jan. 20. A riot extending over three days has taken place at Amsterdam. Socialists and unemployed were the principal offenders. Bakeries were attacked by the mob, who were finally put down by gendarmes, many of them being wounded.
