TEMUKA SCHOOL CONCERT.

A very enjoyable entertainment was given on Thursday evening in the Volunteer Hall, in aid of the funds of Temuka District High School. There was a capital attendance. The first part consisted of choruses, recitations and dialogues by the children, and vocal selections by the Rev. Mr Dellow and Messrs Low, Early, Barrett, and McCaskill, and Mrs Bates. The children's selections were capitally given and reflected great credit upon their teachers. Mr Low and Miss Russell, Master Willie Duncan, and Misses Emma Cooper, Ettie Watts, and A. Mcßratney, were encored for their recitations, as were also Messrs McCaskill, Early, Barrett and Low for songs. Mr Dellow's singing of the " Light Brigade " was excellent, and was heartily applauded. Mrs Bates also was well received. The Temuka Quintette party, under Mr McCarthy's leadership, played selections from the " Pirates of Penzance " and " Bocaccio," and were most warmly received. Their performances , are desirably appreciated. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Dellow, Miss Quinn, and Messrs McLeod and Higgins. The programme concluded with the amusing farce " Boots at the Swan," the caste being as follows : Captain Friskly (Captain of Dragoons) Mr J. A. McCaskill; Mr Edward Higgins (Friend of Friskly), Mr D. McCaskill; Boots at the Swan (Jacob Earwig), Mr Geo. Levens; Pippin (a Page), Master D. McCaskill; Miss Cecilia Moonshine (with a craze for romance), Miss R. Goodey; Miss Emily Moonshine (in love with Higgins), Miss M. Russell; Sally (Servant to Miss Cecilia),Miss May Goodey; Betty (Cook), Miss E. Goodey. The prominent characters in this are Friskly, The Boots, and Miss Moonshine, and these parts were capitally sustained. The supernumerary characters had not a great deal to do. The piece was well staged, the new scenery, painted by Mr Bates, being much admired. The members of committee all worked assiduously to make the affair a success, and have no reason to regret their efforts. In the interval the performers (to whom the committee desire to return hearty thanks) were regaled with coffee, etc., by Miss Storey.
