SCHOOL TREATS.

HILTON SCHOOL. The annual heat in connection with the Hilton School came off on Thursday last. The committee were favored with beautiful weather, which added very much to the enjoyment of both old and young. There was a krge attendance, and everything passed off very pleasantly. The school committee decided to give a priz3 to every pupil who passed the standard examination, and 50 pupils succeeded in qualifying for a prize. Mrs Capfc. Wright and Miss Hay kindly consented to act as iudgas of eewiing, and the committee were most fortunate in securing such competent judges. It ia needleßß to say their decision gave complete satisfaction. After a capital tea had been served out to all the company adjourned to the echo >lroom, where the prizes had been arranged, and very few Bchoqls could be more fortunate in the matter of pr zes. Mr It. Skinner, chairman of the school committee, distributed the prizes, and paid a brief compliment to the ability of the teachers — Mr Steven und Misses Sutherland and Beattie. On the motion of the chairman a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the judges of sewing, the donora of special prizes, and to all who had assisted in any way. Mr J. Kelland seconded the motion in a humorous speech. The sewing prizes were presented as follows :~-Bt<*ndard VI.: Elizabeth Beattie 1 (presented by Mrs Hay), Margaret Earl 2 (presented by Mrß Oapt. Wrtght. Standard Y. : Bridget Earl 1 (presented by Mrs Skinner), Ellen Earl 2 (presented by Mrs Hay). Standard IV. : Elizabeth Kelland 1 (presented by Mr Wagataff), Nora Connolly 2, Annie Guerin. Standard ill. : Lilian Connolly 1, Catherine Leary 2, Mary Earl 3. Standard 11. : Mary Beattie 1, Minerva Jneson 2. Standard I. : Catherine Earl 1, Alice Patrick 2 P. : Edith Kelland I (presented by Miss Beattie). Special prizes—Good: attendance, Mary Beattie (presented by Mr P. W. flutton) ; darning in Standard IV., Elizabeth Kelland (pre t sented by Mr Pye; Geraldine). A long programme of sports, was then gone through, including running, jumping, wrestling, etc., and the competition was very keen in every case. Altogether a most pleasant day was spent, and everyone went home well satisfied with the treat. Messrs Beattie, Kelland, .and Skinner deserve great credit for their excellent management, and thanks are also due to Mesdames Hay, Kelland, Patrick, Archibald, and Skinner for some fine fruit supplied to the children.

PLEASANT VALLEY SCHOOL. The annual treat and prize-giving of the Pleasant Valley School took place on Thursday last. Somewhat contrary to custom, the day was fine and bright, the only drawback being in the point of nttendaace. The children and their friends assembled a little after 1 p.m. in the schoolroom, *hen the prizes gained at the inspector's last examination were handed by the chairman of the committee, Mr K. Brophy, to the successful pupila as follows :—Standard VI.: Annie Finn 1. Standard iV. : Clara Beckley 1, Frank Guilford 2. Standard IV.: Victor Homes 1, And. Lysaght 2. standard 111. : Krneat Tatam 1, Catherine Quaid 2. Standard 11. : May Guilford 1, Harriet Beckley 2. Standard I.: John Macdonald 1, Henry Bennett 2, James Mulvihill 3, May Homes 4. After the distribution of the prizes the children were marched out to the playground, where the rest of the afternoon was devoted to sports, with the exception of an adjournment • for tea, catered for by Mr Riordan, of Geraldine. In the wrestling events 11 to 13 and. 13 to 15 the amount given by the committee was supplemented by the generosity of Mr P, Kyne. The same gentleman very kindly offered substantial prizea to the winners of an additional foot race, open to all the boya of the school. This was run in heats, and, after a final contest, and a capital race, was won by Con Mulvihill. with Hal. Bennett a very close second. Messrs Bennett, Michael Gregan, and C.
