GERALDINE PUBLIC SCHOOL.

DISTBIBUTIOtf OP PEIZES. The annual distribution of prizes in connection with this school took place in the long room of the school on Friday. A considerable number of parents and friends of the children, mostly ladies, accepted the invitation of the committee to be present. Messrs W S Maslin, C E Sherratt, and J W Pye, members of the school committee, were also present, The chairman vt as unavoidably absent in Timaru Shortly after three o'clock the children, to the number of 214, were all marshalled in their places, and a very bright and interested lot of little ones they looked. Proceedings were commenced by the children singing the first song in the kinderspiel, " Eip Van Winkle." The prizes were distributed by Mrs E H Pearpoint, who addressed a few words of congratulation and encouragement to the recipients of the larger prizes. Lizzie Berry, Alex, Quin, and Mary Farrell also received small cards At the conclusion of the ceremony Mr Maslin, on behalf of the committee, thanked the donors of the special prizes. Be explained that the committee were unable to give prizes as heretofore, owing to not having sufficient funds, but he hoped that in future years the old course would be followed. He also thanked the ladies who examined the sewing The competition had been so close that they had had a very difficult task. In conclusion, he proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Pearpoint, who, in the unavoidable absence of the chairman, had so kindly come forward and presented the prizes The vote was carried by acclamation, and the children were dismissed.
