The Loss op the Kakanux. —At a largely-attended meeting at Dunedin it was decided to open a relief fund for the alleviation of the distress caused by the Kakanul disaster. Mr Fish, in addressing the meeting, expressed a strong opinion that the late executive were to blame in this matter, and suggested that the Kaitangata Relief Fund «f £14,000 and the Glutha River Fund of £IOOO might be made available to meet this case by a number of gentlemen guaranteeing the integrity of those funds in the very improbable event of Parliament declining to sanction their diversion to this purpose. Mr Fish was severely brought to task for attempting to dry up “ the well springs of charity.”
