INTERVIEW.

Mr John Washington waited upon the board and asked that Mr Douglas might be compelled to remove the obstructions at present ®x sting upon the road. He requested that there might be a road of a chain wide laid off. The chairman said the board were now in possession of more information, and ho had himself visited the spot. Mr Douglas had given him to understand that the obstructions would be removed. The overseer was instructed to give Mr Douglas 7 nays’ notice to have all obstructions oo the road removed, failing compliance the work to be done at Mr Douglas expense, and legal measures taken to recover cost of same. overseer’s REPORT. The overseer’s report was read and dealt with as follows : “To the Chairman and Commissioners 1 Arowhenua Town Board. “ Gentlemen, —During the month the work authorised in Princes street has been carried out. The thistles growing on roads have also been cut. The bridge at Gamack street has been strengthened. This work was delayed for some time, as I at first considered that some more lasting arrangement might be come to. It is now, however, sufficiently strong to carry a horse. I have to draw attention to the vegetable growth in portions of the creek, and its consequent overflow. Complaints have been made to mo of the creek being dammed back, but I am not prepared to say if this is the case, or, if so, if it is altogether responsible for accumulated water. During a portion of the year the creek was abnormally low, and in a condition to favor vegetable growth. Recent rains have opened up the springs which abound in this creek, and there is a

consequent surplus of water. Directions have been given to have a portion cleaned out, and an improved approach made to the bridge at Hayhurst street. Owing to the fencing of certain sections in Hamilton street it will shortly be necessary to have some improvements made to this road. Tenders have been invited for carting shingle foe repairs and will be laid before you this evening. X find that there is a broken plank in the decking of Maude street bridge. This should receive early attention. —I have, etc., “Alpd. W. Gazi."

Discussion ensued on tlie overseer’s report ra creek. Before tnkieg further action it was decided to await result of the work now in hand. The overseer was authorised to baye pipes put under embankment in Princes street. if water was found to accumulate on sections adjoining. He was ordered to attend to alterations to footbridges, and to have any necessary repairs made to Mande street bridge. OBBBK BEBEBVBS. Tbs overseer was instructed to write to the Minister of Lands ra the creek reserves, and forward to him copy of correspondence on the subject, and also to send him a plan showing what ifc was proposed to set apart. Ho was requested to respectfully urge that some action be taken at once, TENDBBB. One tender was received for carting shingle for repairs. Mr Brown was in favor of waiting until harvest was oyer. He thought the price too high. Mr Frew also considered that it would be better to defer the work, and make a better job of it later on. The chairman considered the price too high, but thought it unwise to defer the work in view of the heavy grain traffic. It was decided to invite fresh tenders for the work, to be considered at next meeting. 60BSB ®N BOAS. The clerk was instructed to have the gorse on East Belt, fronting the China tain’s Hardens, cleared at the cost of oocupiers. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £S Is were passed for paymant.
