SALE OF CROWN LANDS.
Yesterday morning Mr J. H. Baker, Commissioner of Crown Lands for Canterbury, submitted to auction at Timaru thirteen runs iu the Alpine district between Lake Fukaki and Lake Wanaka. The attendance of buyers was small. For Ehoboro Downs, run 88, in Mackenzie County, the eastern side of the Ben Ohau range, 64,600 acres, tenure ten years, the present leasee, Mr Duncan, bid the upset, £250, and Mr Bursill went up to £370, when he retired. Eua 93, part of Lake Ohau station, 55,000 acres on the west side of Lake Ohau and the Hopkins river, including homestead paddock*, was sold to Mr Buriill at £165, or £ls oyer the upset. Birchwood Station, 47,000 acres on the Upper Ahuriri river, £SO j Cotter's Station, 18,000 acres at the head of the Hunter river (Lake Hawea), £lO ; and Birch Hill Station, 14,000 acres Mackenzie County, £BS; were sold to the present occupants at the upset Part of the old Benmore station, with an out-station near Lake Ohau; the eastern part of Lake Ohau runs, including the forks of the Dobson and Hopkins riyers, and the western slopeß of the Ben Ohau range; three small steep runs on the Hunter Eiver, Lake Hawea, and two on west side of Lake Wanaka and the Makarora river, which are very largely bushed country, in all 7 lot*, comprising 200,500 acres, upset rental £335, were passed in. Applications for 13 small grazing runs on the Hunter Hills, from the summit to the freeholds at the foot, and from the Hook river to the White Rock river; also for 19 small patches of steep sidings and riverbed (described as first class land) on the the upper Pareora branches, the Otaio and Makikihi closed yesterday. There were in all 69 applicasions put in, and there will be a ballot at the next meetng of the Land Board at Christchnrch.
