TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.

The regular monthly meeting of the above board was held on Tuesday last. Present—Messrs J. Talbot (chairman), J. "Woodhead, C Bissetk, W. Snell, and J. Fraser.

Klee, Winchester, intimating that he had paid half cost of timber kerbing in front of his properly; the same being now rotten he requested the board to replace it with conerete. —Agreed to. From the Eailway Department covering tracing of extent ef railway land between the south branch of the Kangitata and the siding, and stating roads could net be allowed to be made on the railway reserve unless under special arrangements.—The overseer explained that it would be of convenience to obtain a road through the railway reserve to give access to the ford just constructed. The regular road-line laid off was very rough, and would be expensive to forai— Mr Snell spoke to a similar effect.—The clerk waß instructed to write to the department with the view of obtaining permission to utilize and improve the road.

From Mr Robert Taylor asking that the flax might be cleared from the road between his property and Mr Lawlor's.—The work to be done. From Mr Alexander Geddes requesting the board to order the removal of fencing and gates from the road formerly known as Parkerson's crossing, Arowhenua block. —The overseer to report, the board not caring to interfere with privileges already existing, unless urgent necessity required. Prom the Crown Lands Department intimating that no amounts were accruing in respect of certain sections of land in Orari Village Settlement, From the Geraldme County Council forwarding cheque for £176 3s 2d, amount of subsidy on rates collected. From Mr W. Hearn, Manager for J. G; Ruddenklau, applying for certain repairs to roads on Rangitata Island. —The overseer to report. From the Colonial Secretary, covering copy of amendments to the Dog Registration Act, —Read.

APPLICATION. Mr Bissett said that he had been requested to draw attention to the state of the road between Rolleston's road and Greenaway'g old property. AROWHKNUA TOWN BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Arowhenua Town Board was held last night. Present —Messrs J. Ashwell (in the chair), E. Brown, A. Frew, and E. Carr. COREESPONDEHCIS. Correspondence was read as follows: From the Commissioner of Crown Lands, forwarding plan showing sections upon which moneys are from i time to time accruing to the board under the provisions of the Land Act, ' 1885, and Land Act Amendment Act, 1887, and asking that the fioads might be marked upon the plan whieh the board intended to open up or improve. The commissioners drew attention to the fact that an approximate sum estimated to cover all expenditure for a period of a year might be named, and a considerable amount of trouble thereby saved. The amounts accruing could be then paid as they fell due without extra plans having to be furnished. — It was •resolved that the board personally inspect the village settlement and decide which roads it would be better to open up and improve. Tuesday, Oct. 15th, was selected as a suitable day. From the Property Tax Department, advising that a voucher for the payment of £5 18s 8d for subsidy due under the Local Bodies Powers and Finance Act had been sent to the treasury for payment. He suggested that two small gratings be procured for the ends of the culverts at Maude and Denmark Street, as children were constantly blocking the same with stones. —He was authorised to arrange for gratings at ends of culverts. The chairman reported that Mr Eletcher had decided that he should not require clay as applied for and his application had therefore not been further entertained.

Mr Brown drew attention to the overseer's neglect in carrying out improvements to Stndholme Btreet, and asked for an explanation. The overseer stated that the sum proposed to be expended, £7 10s, was inadequate for making a really good job. If a decent job were to be made it would becess»ry to fill in several hollows, etc. It was resolved that Messrs Brown and Oarr accompany the chairman and overseer and inspect the same. ACCOUNT*. It was resolved that the clerk give fourteen days' notice to lessees in arrear with rentß that legal proceedings will be taken to enforce same. PBOJEOTED WOBKS, ETC The ©verseer, according to instructions at laßt meeting, furnished a statement of probable income and estimated expenditure for the ensuing twelve months, together with a complete statement of the board's reserves, their rents, etc.— Ihe clerk wasjinstructed to keep the above as a record for future reference. The clerk was instructed to draw the attention of the Harbor Board to the heavy cost entailed in stationery, etc., for collection of harbor rate in contrast with the amount of commission receivable.

BOABD OF HEAMH. The chairman drew attention to the increasing population and the want of sanitary arrangements. They were, as a lo'cal body, entitled to sit as a Board of Health, but he suggested that the board might, with reasoa, take more decisive measures. Mr Brown moved " That the overseer report at the next meeting in the capacity of Health Officer." The board then adjourned.
