CONCERT AT RANGITATA ISLAND.
A most successful concert in aid of the school funds was held at the Eangitata Island school on Friday evening last, the room being crowded. The following was the programme : Pianoforte duet, Mrs Burn and Miss Meredith; song, “ Simon the Cellarer,” Mr D. W. M. Burn; recitation, Mr F. Watts; song, “ Tit for Tat,” Miss Meredith; recitation, Mr Wright; song, “Killaloe,” Mr Scott; song, “They all Love Jack,” Mr D. W. M. Burn; recitation, Mr H. Grainger. “The Bobbies Duet,” by Pat Murphy and Tim Finnegan brought down the house, and concluded the first part of the programme. The second part was opened with the glee, “ See Our Oars,” by Mrs Burn, Miss Meredith, and Messrs D, and E. Burn; song,
“ Romany Lass,” Mr E. Burn; song, “Father, Promise You Will Never Drink Again,” Miss Watts; song, “ When Jim Comes H®mo from Sea,” Mrs Burn (encored, and “ The Fairies ” given) ; recitation, “ Firing Butter,” Mr D. Watt (encored). The duet, “The Old Banjo,” by Junius Brutus and Brudder Moore, was another very amusing item, and was loudly applauded, At the conclusion of the concert Mr Grainger addressed those nresent, thanking them for their attendance, and concluded by proposing a hearty vote of thanks to those who had so kindly given their services in aid of the school. The vote was carried by acclamation. A dance was held afterwards, and was kept up with great spirit for several hours.
