PRESENTATION.

A very plensing ceremony took place at the Hilton school oq Friday laßt, the occasion being a presentation to Miss E. Bruce, mistresß, who is severing her connection with the school for tow purpose of taking up another position in th* Temuka' District High School, The offering took the form of a valuable watch and chain, suitably inscribed, and subscribed to by every child in the school. It wag accompanied by the following address, which i may be mentioned was written by the children without any assistance, and was read by Master Georga Stewart : "Dear Miss Btuce,—We, the pupils of the Hilton school, wish to convey to you our sincereßt regret on your leaving us. During the five years you have held the position of mistress our school work has at all timeß been made most pleasant by your gentle forbearance for our childlike shortcomings, and your happy way of teaching us. Whilst being very sorry to lose you, feeling we shall not get your equal, we are delighted to think that your own position will be mucb improved. As a token of the respect and affection every child in the school feeis towards you we wish you to kindly accept this small present, to which, we are pleased to say, every child in the school has subscribed. In conclusion we beg to wish you an affectionate good-bye, trusting you will be happy in your new position, where we know yon will booq make aumerous friends.—We are, etc., "The Pupils of Hilton School. Mr Skinner (chairman of the committee) in making the presentation expressed the respect and entsem that the committee and parents generally felt towards the recipient, and wished her every sucoeas and happiness in her future life. Mr Kelland also spoke to the same I effect, I Miss Bruce, in a few feeling words, thanked the donors for their valuable present, and also for their very kind and and affectionate expressions towards her She would never forget them, and although in another place she would always entertain fond recollections of the Hilton school. She also urged the children to do their best, and try to pass their examinations successfully, as in the end it would be for their own benefit.

In the evening a tea and social was given by the parents of the scholars, in the schoolroom, everything going off moßt successfully, and the gathering did not break up until a late hour.
