CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.

The following ia the Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, Jan. 25th, 1890 :

Harvest is now in full swing, and though, the weather is not all that could be desired, yet so far the " howling nor'-wester" has not appeared to shake out the crops. The only grain as yet threshed are a few parcels of oats, and these are a fair season's average, but it is yet too early to write of the crop generally, Prices for new oats are not yet determined. Stocks of wheat has been considerably eased off by shipments to United Kingdom, but as these are principally of the big berried sorts, stocks of pearl and hunters white are still heavy. Grass Seeds : Parcels of new season's growth have been offered more freely during the week, but without leading to much business, as buyers *are not '*yet inclined to give the prices asked. Dairy produce: But little alteration can" be noted. We wish a more cheering report could be presented at this the opening of the season. The prospects of the ingathering crops are unfortunately not too rosy, as there is so far no outside demand. Whether " federation " would supply this our legislators will doubtless b© able to explain. The following are our week's quotations : Wheat Tuscan, 3s to 3s Id; pearl, 2s lOd to 2s lid: hunters,. 2s 9d.
