THE WEST END SCANDAL.
London, Jan. 16. Mr Parkes, editor of the North London Press, charged with criminal libel for connecting Lord Easton with the West End scandals, has been sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment. His witnesses failed to identify Lord Euston as an habitue of the house in which the alleged offences were committed. Jan. 17. The judge’s summing up on the libel action against Mr Patkes was adverse to the defendant. His Honor characterised it as an atrocious libel. Mr Parkes alleged that the witnesses on whom he relied betrayed him.
